The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

Standard

The Power of Now

The Power of Now is, to say the least, POWERFUL. Eckhart Tolle does a phenomenal job expressing the importance of the present and how it can change your life. Being in the Now is something I have tried to stress in some of my earlier blogs focusing on meditation and awareness. While meditation is one way to get there, through this book you will find that you can be in this moment every second of every day. Luckily for you, the audiobook is now free for 30 days from Audible.com. This company is affiliated with Amazon and you do have to check out with your information secured for after the trial ends. However, if you listen to it everyday, I promise you can finish it and end the renewal before it comes to bite you. If your still unsure about signing up, you can always head to your local library and find either the book or audio recording there. Anyways, I highly recommend it! Even though there is not much mention of addiction, you will find this book incredibly resourceful. Below is a review from the Audible website.” -Enjoy, Robyn

Review from Audible.com:

To make the journey into The Power of Now you need to leave your analytical mind and its false created self, the ego, behind. Access to the Now is everywhere – in the body, the silence, and the space all around you. These are the keys to enter a state of inner peace. They can be used to bring you into the Now, the present moment, where problems do not exist. It is here you find your joy and are able to embrace your true self. It is here you discover that you are already complete and perfect.

Although the journey is challenging, Eckhart Tolle offers simple language in a question and answer format. The words themselves are the signposts to guide you on your journey. There are new discoveries to be made along the way: you are not your mind, you can find your way out of psychological pain, authentic human power is found by surrendering to the Now. When you become fully present and accepting of what is, you open yourself to the transforming experience of The Power of Now.

Gotta Cheer Up by Cotton Jones

Video

We know that we create our reality and can chose to be happy within every moment of our lives. Of course, that can be an incredibly hard emotion to maintain but if we can just think to “cheer up now” in the times we feel ourselves getting down, maybe we can create a more positive outlook for the rest of our day!

Lyrics:

All the colors of your heart
All the whistle in the park
Children swimming through the spark
I was hooding around, in a sea of sound

All the trumpets play whoa whoa

I got to cheer up now
Gotta cheer up now (repeats)
All night I want morning light (repeats)

Now is the Start by a Fine Frenzy

Standard

This song makes me want to get up, travel to the closest field full of bright yellow flowers and prance around in the shining sunlight. Just listen to it and you’ll know exactly what I mean! A Fine Frenzy is an incredible band with a lead singer/pianist that juggles her lyrics around in a relatable, ditzy way that forces you to sing along. A perfect pick for recovery because every day, even every second, is eligible for a new start.

Lyrics:

Hey
Hey
Do you hear, do you hear
That sound
It’s the sound of the lost gone found
It’s the sound of a mute gone loud
It’s the sound of a new start
Kiss
With a mouth of shooting stars
Of lost and broken hearts
Unafraid you can name your scars
With a touch of a new heart
It sounds like
It sounds like
It sounds like
Ladeedadadadada, dadadadada
Now, oh, now is the start
Oh
And it goes with where you go
Don’t lose faith for the friends
You don’t
Need a thing, you already know
You are right as you are
And it sounds like
It sounds like
Oh, it sounds like
Ladeedadadadada, dadadadada
Now, now
Ladeedadadadada, dadadadada
Now, oh
Now is the start, oh
Now is the start
Hey, hey, hey, hey
New start in the end
There is a
New heart under there
Beneath these
New parts everywhere
It is a new, new, new, new start
Now is the start
It sounds like
Oh, it sounds like
Oh, it sounds like
Ladeedadadadada, dadadadada
Now, now
Ladeedadadadada, dadadadada
Now, oh, now is the start
Oh, now is the start
Now is the start
Now is the start
Now is the start
Now is the start
It sounds like
It sounds like
It sounds like

It’s Only Life by the Shins

Video

So the video is a little on the strange side, and not all that up-lifting… However I find this song to be one of those that makes me break down and cry. Mentioning how we’ve been cornered by a “natural desire” and how we all “spend a little while going down the rabbit hole.” Ultimately what really gets me is the part of the chorus; “I’ve been down the very road you’re walking now, it doesn’t have to be so dark and lonesome.
It takes a while but we can figure this thing out and turn it back around.” I always think of all the amazing people I have met while in recovery and how I am not alone anymore. Take this song and relate it to your story as you will, the Shins always have beautiful composition!

Check out the lyrics:

Dyed in the wool, you’ve been cornered by a natural desire
You want to hop along with the giddy throng through life
But how will you learn to steer when you’re grinding all your gears?

You’ve been talking for hours
You say, “Time will wash every tower to the sea,”
And now you’ve got this worry in your heart

Well I guess it’s only life, it’s only natural
We all spend a little while going down the rabbit hole
The things they taught you, they’re lining up to haunt you
You got your back against the wall
I call you on the telephone, won’t you pick up the receiver?

I’ve been down the very road you’re walking now
It doesn’t have to be so dark and lonesome
It takes a while but we can figure this thing out
And turn it back around

You used to be such a lion
Before you got into all this crying on my lap
Back when you thought I’d never get this far

But did you really think I’d shut an open door?
The future’s calling and Imma answer her
The wheels in motion, I never drank your potion
And I know it breaks your heart
Open up your parachute, something’s gotta stop the free fall

I’ve been down the very road you’re walking now
It doesn’t have to be so dark and lonesome
It takes a while but we can figure this thing out
And turn it back around
